In Case You Missed It, a new Union Leader column by Senator Donna Soucy points out how John Sununu is running for U.S. Senate “to ‘protect’ Trump’s agenda,” including Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, toxic tariffs, and war with Iran. 

The column also notes that Trump’s handpicked candidate Sununu is benefiting from tens of millions of dollars in outside spending “from groups backed by billionaires like Elon Musk and the Koch network” in addition to Donald Trump.

• If you’re like me, whenever you’ve turned on your television, you’ve been inundated with countless John Sununu ads interrupting the Red Sox game or your favorite reality show.
• Unfortunately, national Republicans have set their sights on New Hampshire’s U.S. Senate race, already dedicating $30 million in outside spending — from groups backed by billionaires like Elon Musk and the Koch network before Donald Trump himself added over $10 million more — to try to buy this election for his chosen candidate – John Sununu.
• But what’s more important than what we see on TV is what we hear directly from the candidates, and when Sununu’s not filming a commercial or hiding from the media, he’s been quite clear that he’s running for U.S. Senate to “protect” Trump’s agenda.
• At the only Republican primary debate that he agreed to participate in, John Sununu said he “would’ve voted for” Donald Trump’s Big Ugly Bill — the biggest legislative priority of Trump’s second term. That bill pulled billions of dollars in funding from New Hampshire to provide tax breaks for the ultrawealthy and corporate special interests. Its Medicaid cuts forced a Franconia-based health care center to close its doors on almost 1,600 patients, and since the law went into effect, more than 15,000 residents have dropped off of Medicaid across the state. Adding insult to injury, about three percent of Granite Staters who were relying on SNAP have lost their benefits following new barriers to food assistance that Trump’s bill set in place.
• Donald Trump’s Big Ugly Bill has been devastating for New Hampshire, but Sununu still would’ve voted for it. He even praised Republicans for passing the bill without reaching across the aisle and working with Democrats, saying, “Republicans decided they had to go alone, and they did the right thing.”
• John Sununu’s deference to Trump’s priorities goes beyond his Big Ugly Bill. Trump’s tariffs have been hurting manufacturers and small businesses while raising costs for families on important items like school supplies, but Sununu has downplayed their economic impact, calling it “very modest” and even saying the tariffs send a “very fair” message. He has also defended Donald Trump’s war of choice with Iran, despite the fact that Granite Staters have had to pay sky-high prices at the gas pump for months as the war rages on.
• Whether it’s on Trump’s war, tariffs, or drastic health care cuts, Sununu has shown time and again who he’s really working for, and it isn’t New Hampshire. As Granite Staters’ savings get eaten up by rising costs, Sununu has framed this race as being “important to President Trump’s agenda.”
• Coming out of the primary election and with less than seven weeks to go before November 3rd, the U.S. Senate race is shaping up to be an obvious choice for Granite Staters. While John Sununu is focused on Trump’s agenda, Congressman Chris Pappas is focused on making life more affordable for Granite Staters.
• Pappas has fought to bring tariff relief to New Hampshire’s small businesses, introduced legislation that would lower gas prices amid Trump’s war, and is committed to protecting Granite Staters’ health care. He’s willing to reach across the aisle and work with anyone, but he’s also not afraid to stand up to anyone — especially Donald Trump.
• Between now and Election Day, national Republicans will continue to flood New Hampshire with cash to boost Trump’s ideal New Hampshire U.S. Senator. But while they can buy ads, they cannot buy voters — Granite Staters are not for sale. New Hampshire voters have rejected Donald Trump three elections in a row, and this November, they will come out in droves to reject his handpicked candidate John Sununu.
